Riding the emotional rollercoaster

We had a big St. Mary's celebration this morning to kick-off Catholic Schools Week. Of course it was very bittersweet as it was the last one that will ever be at St. Mary's after 88 years. I think I cried the majority of the mass. Most were tears of sadness, some were pride. All the wonderful teachers were there, the children's choir sang beautifully, and all the St. Mary's students came up to sing, "You can make a difference." There were reporters from the Daily Herald and the Chicago Tribune there so if I find pictures in the paper I will share.

After mass we headed to St. Irene's to begin the process of finding a new school, new parish, new home. The staff and parents were so wonderful to us, and it seemed so much like St. Mary's one just had to wonder if this meant we would be back in this position in a few years.

We got home, but when I checked my email I found out that St. Peter's was also having an open house today so we rushed right over. We got there just in time, 4 other St. Mary's families had just arrived and the principal kindly gave us all a tour of the school. As one mom said it was like the Ritz Carlton! The opportunities for the kids in the future were amazing. Dan asked if HE could get a job there!

We have one more open house next Sunday, and then it will be time to make some decisions. Megan has official given her stamp to all 3 schools since they each all have their own playground! In all likelihood there will be people she knows at all 3 schools so at least she won't have to completely be the new kid in town!

We have some big decisions ahead, and I am quite sure we are not fully cried out yet, although I am for this weekend-the sinus pressure is killing me! But we are moving forward, and as Principal Coughlin reminded us this morning-between tears, "The hand of God never pushes you where the Grace of God can't protect you."
